For Partners
Spanish and Illinois can connect your business or organization
with our students of Spanish. They can provide your enterprise with valuable Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge. They also represent potential future
employees. Students are required to work with the community partner for 28 hours during the semester. This is usually done by working 2 hours every week, but can be tailored to the orgnization and/or student's needs. Please contact us if you would like to become a community partner.
In preparation for our students' work in your organization during the Spring 2009 semester, we have scheduled your orientations for Tuesday, January 27. Students will be excused from their regular class period that day to attend orientation with you. The students must travel from campus to your organization and back, so please expect students to arrive at your organization at about ten minutes after the hour and to be with you for about 30 minutes. They will be excused from their classes at 10:00, 11:00, noon, 1:00 or 2:00. After orientation, students may then begin working at their regularly scheduled times. They will not work during spring break (3/21-3/29), and May 6 is their last day.
At the orientation, students typically want to know:
-
your mission statement
- what projects they will work on
-
how their work contributes to that mission
-
general office procedures
-
what to do and what not to do
-
to whom they should report and who can answer their questions
-
any specialized knowledge and Spanish vocabulary they need
-
specific stories of past students' successes
-
specific examples of past student mistakes (no names!)
